
On 17th September 2022, Friends of Heritage Sites (FoHS) organised a full-day seminar on “Thenpandinadu – History, Archaeology and Culture” at AUPET Chinmaya School, Tirunelveli. The seminar was inaugurated by Mr. Gunasingh Chelladurai, Director of Bell Group of Companies, who served as the chief guest. The event witnessed an enthusiastic participation of students from the History and Tamil departments of various colleges, along with members of the general public. The seminar featured a line-up of renowned speakers who explored various dimensions of Thenpandinadu's rich past. Dr. V. Selvakumar spoke on early social formation and urbanisation in Southern Tamil Nadu, while Dr. V. Vedachalam elaborated on the socio-economic and cultural trends between 600 CE and 1400 CE. Dr. N. Ramachandran and Dr. A. K. Perumal discussed nattar deities and worship traditions in Nellai and Kumari districts respectively. Mr. Chenthee Natarajan shared insights on Kumari and Thenpandinadu and Mr. K.T. Gandhirajan presented on mural paintings of the region. The seminar concluded with a dynamic panel discussion involving all the speakers, providing a holistic understanding of the region’s historical and cultural legacy.
